Evanescence merupakan sebuah grup rock beraliran Little Rock.
Evanescence didirikan oleh Amy Lee dan mantan gitaris Ben Moody dan dibentuk di Arkansas, Amerika Serikat.
Mereka berdua bertemu pada sebuah kamp anak muda di Arkansas.
Saat itu Moody mendengar Lee bermain lagu I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That) karangan Meat Loaf menggunakan piano.
Selanjutnya, pasangan ini menemukan jika mereka sama-sama tertarik terhadap Jimi Hendrix dan Björk.
Setelah itu mereka bersama-sama menulis lagu (yang pertama adalah “Solitude” oleh Amy Lee, diikuti dengan “Understanding” oleh Ben Moody, “Give Unto Me” oleh Amy Lee.
Dilanjutkan lagu keempat yang mereka tulis adalah “My Immortal”.
