Sebelumnya Mel Brooks bertugas di Angkatan Darat AS selama perang dunia ke II dan bekerja sebagai pemain drum sebuah klub malam di Catskills.
Mel Brooks bersama Woody Allen, Neil Simon, dan yang lainnya menulis untuk 'Sid Caesar’s Your Show of Shows', acara tersebut kemudian menjadi 'Caesar’s Hours'.

Mel Brooks seolah menemukan keunggulannya, ia terus membuat parodi sepanjang kariernya dengan lelucon horor (Young Frankenstein), film bisu (Silent Movie), Hitchcock (High Anxiety), catatan sejarah (History of the World -- Part I), and fiksi ilmiah (Spaceballs).
Bekerja sebagai penulis, sutradara, dan aktor, Mel Brooks mulai diisukan negatif karena gayanya yang berlebihan.
Pada 1983 Mel Brooks tampil berlawanan dengan Bancoft, ia berkonsentrasi pada remake Ernst Lubitch Classic To Be Not To Be.
Mel Brooks bekerja pada perusahaan produksinya, Brooksfilm.
Selama tahun 80-an Mel Brooks bertindak sebagai produser Eksekutif pada proyek-proyek seperti 'The Fly', 'The Elephant Man', 'Solarbabies', dan '84 Charing Cross Road' yang dibintangi Bancroft.
Tahun 2001, versi musikal 'Broadway The Producers' yang dibintangi Nathan Lane dan Matthew Broderick, menghasilkan tur nasional serta sukses memecahkan rekor baru dengan memenangkan satu penghargaan Grammy dan 12 Tony.
Tahun-tahun setelahnya Mel Brooks mengisi suara animasi 'Spaceballs: The Animated Series dan Jakers! The Advanture of Piggley Winks'. (2)
Keluarga
Mel Brooks menikah dengan artis Anne Bancroft pada 5 Agustus 1964 sampai 6 Juni 2005.
Pernikahannya dengan Anne Bancroft dikaruniai seorang anak.
Namun pada pernikahan pertamanya, Anne meninggal dunia.
Setelah itu, Mel Brooks menikah dengan Florence Baum dan dikaruniai tiga orang anak.
Sayangnya pernikahan tersebut tidak bertahan lama karena perceraian. (1)
