Dia lulus dari Yuhan Technical College dengan jurusan Mechanical Design.

Sung Dong Il telah menikah dengan perempuan bernama Park Kyung-hee pada tahun 2003.(2)

Saat bertemu sang istri, Sung Dong Il dalam keadaan bangkrut karena gagal berbisnis.

Hal ini membuat Sung Dong Il tidak dapat menggelar acara pernikahan.

Pasangan ini telah dikaruniai 3 orang anak.

Sung Dong Il awalnya berakting di teater pada 1987.(1)

Pada 1991, dia mengikuti audisi SBS.

Sung Dong Il kemudian debut sebagai aktor profesional pada 1992 melalui drama Gwanchon Essay di SBS.

Namanya mulai dikenal saat membintangi drama Eun Shil.

Kemampuannya dalam berbicara dialek Jeolla menarik perhatian.

Dia tak hanya menjadi aktor dalam drama televisi, namun juga film.

Film debutnya berjudul Running 7 Dogs yang tayang 2001.

Sebagai seorang aktor, Sung Dong Il telah membintangi 50 lebih judul film dan televisi.

Sung Dong Il makin terkenal mengikuti reality show berjudul Dad! Where Are You Going?.

Ketenarannya tak hanya di Korea Selatan saja.
