Matthew Robert Smith alias Matt Smith lahir pada 28 Oktober 1982 di Northampton, Northamptonshire, Inggris.

Matt Smith memiliki seorang saudara perempuan, Laura Jayne yang merupakan salah satu penari yang tampil dalam video music Call on Me milik Eric Prydz.

Matt Smith tumbuh di Northampton dan belajar di Northampton School for Boys.
