Laura Elizabeth Dern atau Laura Dern lahir di Los Angeles pada 10 Februari 1967.

Laura Dern merupakan anak dari aktris Diane Ladd dan Bruce Dern.

Laura Dern dibesarkan oleh ibu dan neneknya ketika orangtuanya bercerai saat Laura berusia dua tahun.

Laura Dern menempuh pendidikannya di Loyola High School.

Setelah menghadiri University of Southern California selama satu semester dan University of California, Los Angeles selama dua hari, Laura Dern kemudian mendaftar di Institut Lee Strasberg untuk mempelajari metode akting.

Laura Dern menikahi musisi Ben Harper pada 23 Desember 2005 dan telah dikarunia dua orang anak.

Pada Oktober 2011, Laura Dern membintangi serial televisi HBO baru berjudul Enlightened sebagai karakter Amy Jellicoe.

Laura Dern tampil dalam tiga judul film sekaligus pada 2019, yaitu film ‘Cold Pursuit’, ‘Marriage Story’, dan ‘Little Women’.
