Amy Adams memiliki nama lengkap Amy Lou Adams lahir di Vicenza, Italia pada 20 Agustus 1974 dari pasangan Richard Adams dan Kathryn Adams.

Ayahnya merupakan bagian dari pasukan Angkatan Darat Amerika Serikat yang ditugaskan di Italia selama beberapa waktu.

Amy Adams merupakan anak keempat dari tujuh bersaudara.

Pada usia 11 tahun, orangtua Amy Adams bercerai dan dia dibesarkan di The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints dan setelah lulus dari sekolah menengah atas dirinya tinggal bersama ibunya di Atlanta.

Amy Adams menempuh pendidikannya di Douglas Country High School.

Dia tidak meneruskan ke perguruan tinggi dan mulai mengasah keterampilannya di teater musikal.

Amy Adams pernah bekerja di Gap store sebagai karyawan toko untuk mencukupi kebutuhannya. 

Amy Adams beberapa kali dinominasikan dalam Academy Award untuk aktingnya dalam film American Hustle, Junebug, Doubt, The Fighter , dan The Master.

Namanya mulai terkenal ketika berperan sebagai reporter Lois Lane dalam film superhero Man of Steel. (1) 

Amy Adams memulai karier professional sebagai penari di Boulder’s Dinner Theatre pada pertengahan 1990-an.

Selain itu, ia juga bekerja di Country Dinner Playhouse dan Heritage Square Music Hall .

Amy Adams melakukan debut aktingnya di film komedi Drop Dead Gorgeous yang tayang pada 1999.

Setelah itu, ia berperan dalam serial televisi Fox Network berjudul Cruel Intentions dan berperan sebagai Kathryn Merteuil.

Dari tahun 2000 hingga 2002, Amy Adams muncul dalam seri seperti Psycho Beach Party, That '70s Show, Charmed, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Smallville, dan West Wing.

Aktingnya dalam film Junebug yang rilis pad 2005 mengantarkan Amy Adams untuk masuk nominasi Academy Award sebagai Aktris Pendukung Terbaik.

Amy Adams menerima dua nominasi Oscar sbegai pemeran pendukung dalam film Doubt (2008) dan The Fighter (2010).

Selain itu, ia menerima nominasi Oscar untuk perannya dalam The Master (2012).
