Adalah putri dari Michael Monasterio, seorang musisi rock dan Jerri Renee Hastey.

Jessica Chastain tumbuh bersama sang ibu, Jerri Renee Hastey dan ayah tirinya.

Jessica Chastain menempuh pendidikan di El Camino Fundamental High School in Sacramento dan Sacramento City College.

Pada 2003, Jessica Chastain menyelesaikan pendidikan di Juilliard School di New York City dan mendapatkan gelar Sarjana Seni Rupa.

Pada 2004, Jessica Chastain memerankan tokoh Anya dalam produksi Festival Teater Williamstown karya Anton Chekhov di The Cherry Orchard bersama dengan Michelle Williams.

Pada 2012, Jessica Chastain muncul dalam dua film sekaligus, yaitu 'Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted' dan 'Lawless'.

'Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted' berhasil menghasilkan lebih dari $ 747 juta di seluruh dunia.

Jessica Chastain juga tampil dalam film blockbuster 'Interstellar' (2014) bersama Matthew McConaughey dan Anne Hathaway.

Selain itu, Jessica Chastain juga membuat penampilan dalam serial film 'X-Men', 'George and Tammy', 'Plus One', dan 'The Death and Life of John F Donovan'.

Pada 2019, Jessica Chastain tampil dalam dua film yaitu 'IT Chapter Two' dan 'Dark Phoenix'.
